Throughout 2014 it seemed that updates were being made every other week in the world of social media. Here are 5 that stand out to us.
The Like-Gates Have Been Opened
When businesses held promotions, they used to require participants to "like" their Facebook page in order to enter ("like-gating"). Marketers weren't keen on this update, but Facebook believes this policy update is good for everyone. It helps ensure that only true brand fans will engage.
Twitter Enables GIFS
A picture can say a thousand words, and that's a lot when Twitter resricts you to 140 characters or less. Twitter now allows you to share a GIF that sums up your emotions in a single clip.
Search Better on Pinterest
Early in 2014 Pinterest added filters so you can now search Christmas and filter by decorations, cookies, trees, and so on. Pinterest is so popular that the number of searches that take place on the platform is competing with the number on Google.
Ads on Snapchat
Snapchat is incredibly popular among teens. After three years of being ad-free, Snapchat finally made the move to start capitalizing on its platform and began allowing ads.
Instagram Caption Editing
